In support of BCPB charity
As on the previous occasions, the
combined Hertfordshire choirs will be using this occasion to raise money in
support of the British Council for Prevention of Blindness. This is at
http://www.bcpb.org
British Council for Prevention of Blindness (also known as Save Eyes
Everywhere), email: info@bcpb.org
The funds raised at this concert will contribute to projects that BCPB is
funding : 90% of blindness is in the developing world, where it is both cause
and effect of poverty. Part of the problem is a lack of trained people to lead
the development of eye care in these countries. The BCPB has decided to fund
new Fellowships leading to the degrees of MD and PhD, which will not only
provide high quality research leading to more effective prevention and
treatment, but also train tomorrow's leaders in blindness prevention in the
developing world. Our first Sir John Wilson Fellow is Dr Mathenge of Kenya. She
will be researching blindness affecting those over 50, and on completion of her
training will lead new initiatives to develop programmes to prevent blindness
throughout the East African region. For more details, see our website,
www.bcpb.org, where you can also download our Annual Review and
Newsletters.
